They've graced display cabinets at some of your favourite cafés, they've been the guest of honour at weddings and birthdays across town, and their Instagram pics inspire sugar-dusted fantasies on the daily. And now Proof is in the Pudding has pulled together their sweetest creation yet: a bricks-and-mortar store. The new South Yarra bakery is the next adventure for owner and head baker Isabelle Bach, whose custom-made desserts and cakes have garnered a loyal following of Melbourne sweet tooths over the past few years.

Up until now, the boutique bakery's pulled most of its fans through social media, with Bach delivering bespoke treats to a growing assortment of local cafés, corporate clients, and cake-loving individuals. Crafted on top-notch produce, infused with plenty of passion, and catering to all sorts of dietary needs (including vegan and gluten free options), there's no doubt these sweet treats have broad appeal.

The new Chambers Street store, just opposite South Yarra station, finally gives local dessert fiends a way to ogle Bach's baked goods IRL — a deliciously dangerous prospect, as any of the bakery's Instagram followers can attest to. Open from 1.30–5pm Thursday through Monday, punters can swing by to place custom orders, grab a treat to go or sit in and sample the daily changing offerings of the store's Baker's Bench. If you're lucky, your visit might include with a fresh batch of red velvet cookies, some still-warm scones or a piece of Bach's Amaretto crumb cake.
