Okonomiyaki Mizuno
Okonomiyaki, aka 'Japanese pancake', is a street food staple. This buzzy restaurant takes it up a notch and has received a Michelin nod of approval.
Overview
You cannot make your way to Japan without sampling okonomiyaki, a teppan-grilled savoury pancake filled with delicious things and topped with even more. Okonomiyaki Mizuno is the oldest okonomiyaki specialty shop, opening in downtown Dotonbori in 1945 after the Second World War.
Since its founding, it has been featured in the Michelin guide Bib Gourmand numerous times.
Operated by third-generation owner Yoshiko Morikawa, the shop sources its ingredients from nearby markets to ensure they're as fresh as possible. The signature dishes are the mazeyaki (with a mix of ingredients), the Mizuno-yaki with pork and seafood, the Yamaimo-yaki which uses yams instead of flour in its batter and the Yoshoku-yaki which is a family recipe handed down by owner Yoshiko's grandparents.
Go hungry and go early — or expect to get in line.
