HEAD TOWARDS THE SEA FOR A SUNNY COASTAL WALK

Spring is here and it's time to swap your usual pint-at-a-pub date for an outdoor adventure — specifically, a stunning, sunny coastal walk. Head in most directions in Sydney and you'll hit the water, where an expansive network of walking tracks are at the ready. So you and your partner don't spend the whole date searching Google Maps, we've rounded up the city's ten best coastal walks. Expect sparkling harbourside views, wild bushland with native flora and fauna, hidden pathways and heaps of historic sites. And they range from easy one-hour treks to epic multi-day adventures. Grab your sneaks, your date and your sunnies and get walking.

EXPLORE THIS NEW EXHIBITION MADE FROM 20,000 FLOWERS

For an affordable date that'll excite multiple senses, head along to the Royal Botanic Garden in the CBD. A new exhibition dubbed InBloom has opened inside The Calyx, and it's made from 20,000 flowers flashing hues across the spectrum — as well as one of the largest vertical floral walls in the Southern Hemisphere. The flowers are arranged into a living impressionistic watercolour painting stretching over 50 metres in length and over five metres tall. As well as being visually stunning, the exhibition educates visitors on the roll colour plays in plant ecology. Plus, with so many plants in such a small space, expect an onslaught of aromas, as well as colour. It's worth visiting several times — the living exhibition only continues to grow and change over time — and only costs a few dollars, with the garden just asking for a donation on entry.

WATCH FREE JAZZ AND DRINK $10 NEGRONIS

Tackle the doom and gloom of Sunday's dying hours with a local dose of chilled-out jazz and a delightfully priced cocktail. Every Sunday from 6pm, Moya's Juniper Lounge is combining a free jazz gig from The Squares with classic negronis (which, at $10, are a rare bargain) to create a fun date evening that won't break the bank. Plus, you can banish those end-of-the-weekend blues with a cocktail in-hand (and perhaps a personal pickle plate) in what might be one of the best things to do in Sydney on a Sunday. If you're willing to plash some more cash, you can head of one of many restaurants nearby for a feed. Our pick: ramen at RaRa. Hot tip: make a booking, it's popular.

FLEX YOUR 'HAMILTON' KNOWLEDGE AT THIS THEMED TRIVIA NIGHT

If your date has already bought tickets to the Hamilton musical hitting Sydney in 2021 and has spent the last couple of months streaming the filmed version on Disney+, then do we have a date night activity for you. You don't need to be young, scrappy and hungry to succeed at this trivia evening. You don't need to have seen oceans rise and empires fall, either. You will need to know plenty about Hamilton, though, of course. As hosted by The Chaser's Julian Morrow, Totally F*ct Trivia: Hamilton Edition will take over the Giant Dwarf Theatre in Redfern from 6.30pm on Tuesday, September 8. Tickets to attend physically are sold out, but you can connect virtually for $15 for a couple. So, purchase a bottle of vino — we suggest you swing by P&V Wine and Liquor — order your favourite takeaway and get ready to show off your Hamilton knowledge.

RENT A WATERFRONT GETAWAY ON THE NORTHERN BEACHES

If you and your partner are still desperate to get out of Sydney, it's not too late to book into a glamorous weekend getaway on the northern beaches — though you'll certainly need the cash to splash. About an hour's drive north of Sydney, you'll find Pittwater, which is surrounded by hundreds of secluded beach houses, charming cabins set right on the water and serene retreats that'll transport you miles away from the hustle and bustle of the city. To save you hours of scrolling, we've rounded up 20 of the most stunning — and most secluded — Airbnbs located by the water around the northern beaches, including the pictured artist's cottage, which has a private rooftop terrace, an outdoor firepit and stunning views from almost every room. This is your chance to whisk your loved one away for a romantic (and much-needed) weekend up the coast.
