The underground club on Liverpool Street has gone through a few names: Goodgod Small Club came first, followed by a brief stint as Plan B, before finally landing on Hudson Ballroom. Despite the name change, the venue continues to celebrate music in its many varied forms — a rare quality in Sydney these days. There are the throwback evenings which cover everything from Spice Girls to pop punk to Kanye. Regular dancehall events will get you movin' and shakin', and it has become a regular on the gig circuit for many touring acts. The event roster also features a few wildcard entries — pole-dancing, anyone? — meaning that expecting the unexpected is the only guarantee with Hudson. Belly Bao has sadly departed the kitchen for its own standalone Newtown store, so stay tuned for what will replace it to fuel those dancing feet.
