For a residential area, the backstreets of Paddington sure play host to a surprising number of bars and pubs. One of these is the iconic Grand National Hotel, which has been kicking around Paddo since before the idea of a gastropub had even been thought up. The venue had a facelift a couple of years ago, and it's a pretty slick job, but other than that, the Nash has continued to carry the mantle of how a good pub should behave.
The menu is a collection of dishes made famous by pubs worldwide. Think burgers, a grill section, a few salads, and mains including a pasta, schnitzel, and salmon. The starters also maintain the theme with some calamari, chicken wings, and a selection of other tasty snacks.
The venue itself is pretty easy on the eyes, too. Faded pastels colour the walls, softly blending in to the floorboards, all tied together by wooden fittings and a fluid colour scheme. Best of all, the pub is more than happy for you to bring your dog along to the pub, as long as you stay in the front bar (but no puppers in the bistro).
