Five Brew-Filled Events to Check Out During Sydney Beer Week 2017

Brunch and pooches, cans with comedy and a six-course boozy breakfast to defeat any hangover.

Returning for its seventh year, Sydney Beer Week — which has this year dropped the 'craft' from its name — celebrates beer in all its golden greatness this October. Running from Friday, October 20 through to Sunday, October 29, the ten-day celebration is packed full of events and activities that will grasp the interest of beer novices and connoisseurs alike.

These will take place at several locations across Sydney — and there's quite the list to choose from. One notable event is the Hair of the Dog Breakfast, where the Rocks Brewing Company will throw a mighty six-course breakfast paired with eight beers promising to be one of the best hangover cures we've heard of.

You'll need it if you're heading to any of the other events, like the kick-off party full of brews and food trucks at the Australian Maritime Museum. Or The Grifter Brewing Co.'s dog-friendly event at their Marrickville brewery. You can find the full event list on the Sydney Beer Week's website, but to make it a little easier we have picked five events that we think are worth checking out. There's no doubt SBW will leave you better quenched, better fed and better educated in beer-related matters than it found you.

As Sydneysiders, we love a place where we can bring our furry friends — especially when those places sell alcohol. It really does make for a perfect day, and Sydney Beer Week understand this. So for the festival’s penultimate day, Grifter Brewing Company and New Zealand Brewery Parrot Dog are joining forces to make for a fun afternoon for both you and your pooch — you’ll be able to sip that refreshing brew with your fluffy mate. Head on down to Grifter this Saturday, October 28 with your pup for pints at bar prices.

You could do that, or you could go for the best cleanse out there: SBW’s hair of the dog breakfast. A hangover cure of hangover cures, this feast will match six courses with eight expertly paired beers, all hosted by The Rocks Brewing Co. After this, you’ll be right as rain and that hangover will be a thing of memory.

Calling all beer connoisseurs: what kind of flavour do you prefer? Hoppy or sour? Which type of brew do you think is more popular? To answer these important questions, Basement Brewhouse has asked six breweries to showcase one of each style from their selections.

This event runs from Sunday, October 22 to Sunday, October 29 from 11am–11pm — so there’s plenty of time to pop down, grab a paddle and make your vote count with the tokens gained from buying a taster.

The competing breweries are Mornington Peninsula Brewery, HopDog BeerWorks (from Nowra, NSW), Marrickville’s Batch Brewing Co., Camperdown’s Wayward Brewing Co., Feral Brewing from WA and Bridge Road Brewers from country Victoria. Who will be crowned champion? You’ll have to head along to find out.
