Found 25 minutes' drive north of Byron Bay, the little coastal town of Brunswick Heads is already a destination for foodies — mainly because of Fleet, a pint-sized restaurant that specialises in beautiful small plates and organic wines. Now, a new spot has come to town.

Open since Friday, December 7, Bounty is an 80-seater restaurant founded by Bonny Porter — who, at 23, became the youngest-ever finalist on MasterChef Australia: Professionals. Before that, she learnt her trade under Neil Perry at Rockpool Bar & Grill, and afterwards, she headed to London. In the UK, she established her first solo project, a gourmet meatball restaurant in Soho.

Bounty is Porter's first Australian venture, teaming up with David Lovett (ex-Uccello and 100-Mile Table), who's heading up the kitchen. The two have come up with a menu made for feasting. It's divided into four sections — land, sea, garden and pantry — with each featuring plenty of local, seasonal produce.

Current dishes include Boon Farm dandelion and Ossau-Iraty (a sheep's milk cheese, made with 3000-year-old techniques), Saskia Beer spatchcock, prawns from Ballina and brownie gelato with Persian fairy floss. There's a bunch of takeaway options too, including focaccia, Swedish cardamom buns, seasonal salads and baguettes.

On the wine list, you'll find a generous does of Australian drops. There's a focus on boutique producers, including Dormilona in Margaret River, and Pennyweight in Beechworth, plus a selection of vegan and sulphite-free wines. In addition, Porter is working on some signature cocktails, in league with local distilleries such as Brookies Gin and Lord Byron Vodka

Bounty is open seven days a week for brekkie and lunch, and for dinner from Thursday to Sunday. Find it at 2 The Terrace, Brunswick Heads.
