A Cat Adoption Cafe Has Landed in Wellington

It was only a mere few weeks ago when the world (or at least New Zealand) was shook with the news of the sudden death of New Zealand's First Cat, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern's SPCA-adopted Paddles. After news of her death, donations poured into the SPCA and a state funeral was organised on Wellington Harbour.

While the country continues to mourn Paddles, Ken and Richelle Okada have decided to open Wellington's first cat adoption cafe (full of rescued kitties) where patrons can have the option of taking a cat to go and love it as much love as the nation loved Paddles. (If that is even possible.) Neko Ngeru Cat Adoption Cafe which literally means Cat Cat Cat Adoption Cafe ('neko' being cat in Japanese and 'ngeru' also meaning cat, but in Maori), opened last Saturday on November 18 on 291 Jackson Street in Petone.

Cats currently available for adoption include an always hungry tabby called Brett, Mary, who was rescued while she was still heavily pregnant and wild, and Olly, a 'smoochy' tabby and white cat that just wants all the pats all day, every day.

Last year the SPCA helped 46,654 animals and investigated 14,809 animal welfare complaints. Help them by adopting your own furry companion directly or through a cat adoption cafe or donating to the cause.
