Overview

That night sky of our is pretty damn beautiful. Truly capturing it in a photograph is nigh on impossible for the average Instagrammer, but for 2013 Astrophotographer of the Year Mark Gee it's a well-perfected craft.

Astrophotography, the "art of night," was difficult to do up until the 20th century, when the capture of stellar photography captured the imagination of photographers. If you own a DSLR camera and tripod, think about heading down to Red Rocks Nature Reserve on the coastal fringe of the city for a beautiful night under the stars.

Mark will loosely instruct, but the ethos of the night is to have a go. No doubt you'll become enraptured with the process, especially if the event is anything like last year- the 300 attending were treated to a beautiful display of the Aurora Australis.

It's also the start of Global Astronomy Month! If the night's weather isn't agreeable, the event will be postponed- updates of which will be posted on the event's facebook page
