Overview

Roxy Cinema is continuing to make a trip to the movies a lot better with another Feast Your Eyes event. The ongoing series transcends a standard film screening by providing a truly holistic experience of entertainment. The Sundance film festival feature City of Gold will be accompanied by a cocktail or mocktail on arrival as well as an 'LA hawker-style savoury dish' and dessert.

The film showcases the culturally diverse food scene in downtown Los Angeles but also raises questions of multiculturalism. The documentary is a biography of the renowned LA Times food critic Jonathan Gold, but it is the periphery stories of the locally-owned and sometimes struggling restaurant owners that are perhaps more inspiring. The film is truly a celebration of how food has the power to bring people together.

It gets even better, as the US Embassy Wellington and the Wellington Chamber of Commerce have teamed up to bring the Pulitzer Prize-winning food critic and star of the film all the way to Miramar. After the film, Jonathan Gold will be answering questions along with the filmmaker, Laura Gabbert.
