Overview

The origins of gin can be traced back to the Netherlands in the 13th century. Originally sold in pharmacies for medicinal use, soldiers would drink it before battle for its calming properties. It's thought this was the origin of the phrase 'Dutch courage'. While in 18th century London, it was healthier to drink gin than water from the Thames River.

Now a staple of liquor cabinets and bars around the world, the subtleties and nuances of gin have come a long way since malt wine mixed with juniper berries — and that is something worth celebrating.

On 12 July, D4 on Allen will be doing just that with Gintopia, a one night festival dedicated to gin appreciation. Featuring tastings from some of the best local and international distilleries — including Hendricks, Ariki, Dancing Sands and Bootleggers they promise it will be an evening of "gin-spiration and education."

Your $60 ticket fee includes four gin tokens and food throughout the night. So if you're keen to learn how to make the perfect G&T, check out their event listing on Facebook.
