Overview

Aro Valley is known to locals as a hub of creativity, political movement and great beer. By churning out artists, activists and culinary genius, this place really makes up the Wellington we love. So, what makes this place so special? Of course, it's the Humans of Aro Valley.

The Humans of Aro Valley is the first solo exhibition by local photographer Kalen Jesse Acquisto. Throughout this project, Kalen captured portraits of the locals and learned their stories. The project itself drew upon inspiration from Brandon Stanton and his Humans of New York project. Like Brandon, Kalen interviewed her subjects to find out what "home" means to them. The exhibition collects these photographs and stories together to create an anthology of Aro Valley.

To learn more, head down to the Aro Valley Community Hall this Thursday. The opening night will be more than just a visual feast, as food and drink will be proudly provided by local businesses. So, take a little time this week and get to know the locals.
