After the November 2016 earthquake, Kaibosh Food Rescue had to evacuate its Wellington home. Despite this, the collective continued to do what it does best: collecting surplus food and providing it to those who need it. Throughout those months, Kaibosh was still operating when possible, just out of temporary locations. This proved difficult, but the company knew it could ask Wellingtonians for help.

So began the Earthquake A-Peel, a fundraising effort that was quite literally bananas. Mascot, Banana Thunderpants, was followed by members of Kaibosh in bananas suits who were giving out bananas. And, it worked. Kaibosh raised $12,000 to get back up and running in the city. Now finally, it has found its new permanent home on Hopper Street. With this new central location, city dwellers now it have easier than ever to donate their time. Now, that's food for thought.

To give you an idea of the impact, Kaibosh has supplied over 2.5 million meals to those in need, which equates to more than 4000 people each week. With this in mind, there are ways we can help Kaibosh so they can help others. Of course, after these tumultuous months they need it more than ever, we all know how difficult it is to move here. You can either donate time by volunteering, donate funds, or donate food. Either way, it's a great way to give back to the Wellington you love.
