Sustainable architecture porn, coming right up. If you're one for flicking endlessly through unfathomably stunning, planet-saving and wonderfully expensive real estate imagery, stick around. The very best of Australian home architecture has been shortlisted for the fifth annual Houses Awards, and we're already planning to move into every one of them — especially these sustainable gems.
Awards, commendations and all-round bubbly will be presented to Australia's best houses built/modified within the last year at Melbourne’s NGV International on July 31, with one project to be awarded the prestigious, indisputably bragworthy title 'Australian House of the Year'.
A total of 135 projects (completed between January 1, 2014 and February 28, 2015) have been shortlisted across nine categories including best outdoor, best apartment, best house in a heritage context and more. But the category we're particularly interested in is the leanest and greenest of the abodes — the excellence in sustainability award.
We're talking carbon-friendly houses, symbiotic rainforest hideaways, solar-powered CBD apartments; all saving the planet from home.
Australian House of the Year (and best sustainably-designed house of the year) will be announced at Melbourne's NGV International on Friday, July 31. Ticket sales open in June here.
