Borough Market
Taste test to your stomach's content at this sprawling fresh food market near London Bridge.
Overview
This one's all for the foodies. Borough Market has been trading by the Thames in Southwark since 1756, but it's built on a 1000-year tradition of markets near London Bridge.
Run by a charitable trust, with a focus on sustainability and quality, it's a gastronomic wonderland. Recent expansions for food vendors now have more than 100 traders across the market area with everything from fresh seasonal veg and seafood to charcuterie, wine and cheeses from across Britain and abroad.
Street food also spans the globe, with Iraqi, Malaysian, Italian, Thai, Venezuelan, Gujarati, Singaporean, Greek, Mexican and more on offer. There's every kind of specialism: olives, vinegars, nut butters, fruit crumbles, dates and goat's-milk ice cream. You'll find established icons like Brindisa, The Ginger Pig, Monmouth Coffee, Bread Ahead and Elliott's alongside newcomers like East London Liquor Company. This is one market you'll want to tackle hungry.
