Overview

Stately, awe-inspiring and captivating – and that's just the British Museum building itself. Within these walls is an incredible collection of antiquities and cultural artefacts from all over the world covering two million years of human history. This world-renowned museum has permanent exhibits drawing in millions of visitors annually. See the famous halls of Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Assyria, Renaissance Europe, galleries of timepieces, treasures from the Sutton Hoo burial, and monuments and artefacts of Greece (including the Parthenon). Take in relics from Pre-European Mexico and Indigenous peoples, the splendour of Indian sculpture and Chinese ceramics, and explore the history of Japan from ancient pottery to contemporary manga. Only a fraction of the immense collection is on display at any time across more than 60 galleries, so keep an eye out for new exhibitions and temporary special events.
