Overview

If you're looking for a short break from the humdrum, Canberra has you covered. From top-notch regional wineries and an ever-growing food scene to bush walks and galleries aplenty, there is so much to do in the capital. So, it's an ideal destination for an action-packed getaway.

To get a taste of everything Canberra has to offer, head to Braddon's leafy Haig Park for the weekly Village Markets. Set in one of Canberra's trendiest suburbs, the markets bring together farmers, bakers, chefs and other artisans in a food- and craft-filled day that showcases the best produce and specialty goods in the region.

From 8am–2pm on Sundays, you can nab some locally grown produce straight from the source, or peruse handcrafted homewares and floral bouquets from the region's small business owners.Alongside all of the eats, the markets regularly host cultural performances, musicians and dance sessions.

Once you've finished exploring the markets, take a stroll down nearby Lonsdale Street to find the rainbow roundabout and some of Canberra's top cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques. Beer fans can sample up to 18 different beers and ciders brewed on-site at BentSpoke Brewing Co. or watch the sunset on the weekend in the beer garden of gastropub Hopscotch. If you fancy something a little more high-end, head to Sage Dining Rooms at Gorman Arts Centre to try its degustation menu and local wines. Or, if you more shopping is what you're after, check out the Ori Building for boutique fashion, homeware and design stores.
