Overview

Even the department stores have stood the test of time in Japan with Isetan Shinjuku first opening as a solitary kimono shop in 1886.

Now spanning nine floors, the wares have expanded to include high-end homewares, jewellery and fashion labels, ranging from Gucci to Acne Studios.

If you don't have the budget to shop haute couture, Isetan's depachika — or basement food market — offers the full spectrum of culinary creations.
