Walsh Bay hotel Pier One Sydney Harbour is taking a delicious detour through France this autumn with the launch of Harbour Bistro by Pier One, a waterfront pop-up channelling the laidback energy of a modern Parisian bistro. Set to welcome its first diners on Wednesday, April 30, the limited-time affair pairs French-inspired dishes with postcard-worthy views of Sydney Harbour. Far from stuffy fine dining, Harbour Bistro has been imagined as a deliberately relaxed destination for sundown cocktails and dinners that linger into the night. Whether you're heading in for one of the weekly specials — namely, half-price steak frites on Tuesdays, all-you-can-eat moules-frites on Wednesdays and bottomless chocolate mousse on Fridays — or the weekday happy hour, you'll find effortless European charm, minus the long-haul flight. The menu showcases bistro favourites through a distinctly Australian lens. You can kick things off with the likes of buttery baked scallops topped with gruyère, silky chicken liver pâté or the show-stopping Seafood Pastry, in which fresh Australian seafood is encased in golden pastry. For mains, it's all about French comfort classics with a twist, with standouts including a rich caviar-loaded cheeseburger, mussels in a creamy chardonnay sauce, and share dishes like an 800-gram bone-in ribeye for two, served with house gravy and a decadent butter sauce. You'd also be well advised (if we do say so ourselves) to save room for dessert. On offer you'll find a hazelnut cream-filled pastry, seasonal tart served with vanilla ice cream, and a classic French cheese board. But the pièce de résistance is that bottomless chocolate mousse — it's served only on Fridays and inspired by longstanding Paris bistro Chez Janou. Weekends at Harbour Bistro are about feast mode, with an $89 bottomless set menu that includes everything from croquettes and creamy mushroom pasta to hand-cut beef tartare and herb-roasted chicken served with shoestring fries. Naturellement, the bar leans French too, with champagne cocktails, mini french martinis and a considered wine list. There's also happy hour from Tuesday to Friday, while Thursday's two-for-one mini french martini deal is the perfect excuse to say oui to a midweek rendezvous. Plus, if you head to Harbour Bistro on its launch weekend (Saturday, May 3–Sunday, May 4), you'll score a free mini french martini on arrival — très chic, if you ask us. Harbour Bistro by Pier One opens on Wednesday, April 30, at Pier One Sydney Harbour, 11 Hickson Road, Dawes Point. For more information, head to the hotel's website.
