Carrickfergus Castle
Take a step back in time at this incredibly well-preserved medieval fortress on the shores of Belfast Lough.
Overview
Despite being almost 850 years old, Carrickfergus Castle remains in stellar condition. From its protected position on Belfast Lough, the fortress was routinely attacked over the centuries — it continuously garrisoned until the end of World War II.
Nowadays, visitors gain insight into a bygone age through guided tours or self-led strolls, exploring the storied walls along with historical displays.
