Overview

Leaving behind civilisation for the day is made easy at The Sperrins. A short drive from Derry~Londonderry or Belfast, this remote wonderland is ideal for hiking trials with rarely another soul to see.

It's relatively flat, so you won't have to puff yourself out climbing any soaring hills. You'll enjoy picturesque views every way you turn; just be sure to bring a pair of waterproof hiking boots, as the moorlands can get damp.

In 2023, artist Thomas Dambo unveiled a new art trail, the Sperrin Sculpture Trail. The sculptures include three giants, each representing the past, present and future: 'Nowanois: The Storytellers' represents the seanchaí or storytellers who safeguard Irish myths and legends, 'Darach: The Guardian' protects the present, and 'Ceoldán: The Stargazer' looks to the future.
