Opened in 1894, Mercado Benito Juarez is a historic market in the centre of Oaxaca, thriving with delicious food, handicrafts and artisanal goods.
Crowded with locals throughout the week, the market offers a chance to sample local cuisine, shop authentic souvenirs and chat with the laidback vendors.
Besides the main shopping area, there's also a separate food court, Pasillo de Humo, where you can navigate billowing clouds of smoke to order a freshly grilled feast.
