Overview
Yes, Google has developed a car that drives itself. Fitted with 360 degree perception, it's supposedly safer than a regular car by removing the possible element of human error, fatigue, emotions, inebriation, etc. The prototypes have already been tested out amongst real-people-cars, covering 140,000 miles in California on different roads, including the busy Highway 101 through Silicon Valley.
But don't worry, hoons and meatheads - your robotic car doesn't have to be a safer option if you don't want it to be. According to the folk at Inhabitat, "[f]or the more vigilant 'driver' the [sic] Google’s new system would boast the option of being programmed to different driving personalities — from cautious, in which it is more likely to yield to another car, to aggressive, where it is more likely to go first."
All this comes just weeks after creating the internet's largest-ever circle jerk via their online Chrome ad with that Arcade Fire song in it.
