Purpose for this role
The Managing Editor's role is to drive Concrete Playground's daily organic editorial agenda and contribute to the brand's growth in traffic and audience engagement. You'll help craft a compelling content strategy that delivers our audience stories worth spending time with, and have a deep understanding of the way these stories come to life across Concrete Playground's multi-platform ecosystem.
We're looking for a seasoned editor and tastemaker, with a passion for the local food and drink scenes, to help meet the demands of our growing audience. You'll leverage your keen eye for data and analytics to translate insights into actionable recommendations for our editorial team, driving content optimisation and community.
Desired outcomes
- Drive the evolution and execution of Concrete Playground's content strategy across Australia and New Zealand.
- Manage a team of writers and contributors responsible for curating fresh, relevant and audience-first digital and social content daily.
- Come up with creative content ideas, help our contributor network hone their angles, and write and publish timely written, video and social content across our platforms.
- Fastidiously subedit and fact-check all content, making images, text, video and links work together as a happy whole.
- Commission editorial and photography work and build up Concrete Playground's talent pool and creator network in all markets.
- Track and evaluate data and analytics to inform business decisions and drive growth in traffic, audience engagement and social reach.
- Develop innovative strategies to drive efficiencies across the editorial team, streamlining workflows, improving communication and boosting content quality and timeliness.
Competencies
- Technical competencies: Advanced knowledge of WordPress and social platforms, and the ability to use analytics tools to inform content decisions. A highly proficient sub-editor with a great eye.
- Cultural competencies: You're someone who closely follows the news and wider cultural trends, and inherently understands the cultural landscape of Australian cities. You have a particular passion for, and wide network of contacts within, the food and drink industries.
- Interpersonal competencies: You own it. You're a creative and strategic self-starter with the ability to hold others accountable to deadlines.
- You have a detailed understanding of the ANZ media environment and the role new technologies play, plus a commitment to furthering the interests and needs of our broad and diverse audience.
- Most importantly, you're passionate about the things we're passionate about: food, drink, travel, arts, culture, lifestyle, technology and urban affairs.
