Museo Correale di Terranova
Discover the roots of the Sorrento Peninsula through archeological exhibitions, unique artwork collections and historical books.
Overview
Open to the public since 1924, the Museo Correale di Terranova sprawls across 24 rooms and four floors of an 18th-century former family residence. Explore a vast collection, from pre-Roman archaeology to clocks, Louis XV-style furnishings, porcelain figurines and intricate marquetry.
See evocative work by Artemisia Gentileschi, paintings from the School of Posillipo and Neapolitan Mannerism, pastoral and sacred works, and a veritable timeline of the history of Naples through its decorative arts and the political and cultural changes that influenced them. Be charmed by the magnificent collection of delicately molded 18th-century Italian and French porcelain and painted tableware.
The entire grounds of this museum are a treasure in their own right, with a splendid Hall of Mirrors, a formal garden and the spectacular views from the Belvedere Terrace.
