Overview

Castel Trauttmansdorff has towered over the fringes of Merano since the 1300s, being abandoned and updated by its many owners from that moment on.

Now home to Touriseum (Museum of Tourism) – a fascinating gallery tracing 200 years of alpine history – the other reason to visit is the castle's 12-hectare garden.

Adorned with species gathered from around the world, it's the last stop on Sissi's Path – a 3.5-kilometre stroll from central Merano, dedicated to Empress Elisabeth of Austria, that passes by many of the region's natural highlights.
