New Zealand Ukulele Festival
Celebrating the tiny stringed instrument.
Overview
Enthusiasts of the tiny stringed instrument will descend on Trusts Arena on Saturday 29 November, as the 2014 NZ Ukulele Festival rolls into town. The celebration of the ukulele is one of the biggest events of its kind in the world. Last year a record crowd gathered to enjoy non-stop entertainment from international and local musicians.
This year will be no different with four stages of music, as well as workshops, stalls and giveaways. US uke/pop singer-songwriter Ted Talker and ‘mouth trumpet’ player Victoria Vox will fill this year’s international guest artist spot; local uke legend and the man known as "the encyclopedia of Polynesian song", Will Crummer, will perform with his family band The Rarotongans, and there will be performances from the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra and The Kiwileles - the New Zealands schools’ ukulele orchestra.
An 'Afternoon Tea Jam' will be hosted for the ‘greyer’ ukulele players, where a play and sing along will be hosted over tea and ginger nuts, and the under fives will be kept entertained by children’s songwriter Kath Bee.
