With the pearler summer days we've been having recently, this inner city watering hole is definitely one of the top picks for whiling away the Melbourne Cup.

Overview

On a sunny day in Auckland city, it is hard to beat the deck at Sale Street. With the pearler summer days we've been having recently, this inner city watering hole has become high on the hit list for afternoon bevy on the bean bags. Therefore, I'm sure it's not just me that can see it being one of the ideal settings to enjoy a day at the races, aka, a pretty good compromise for not actually being in Melbourne.

Melbourne Cup is as much about the glitz and the glamour as it is about the race itself. Sale Street has come to the party in this regard with a themed afternoon combining fashion, food and of course, a live stream of the famous horse race. Expect an extraordinary four course lunch, showcasing the French-infused Kiwi style of cuisine that Cru, Sale Street's restaurant, serves. Just for a little teaser, here's one of the courses from the set menu for the day: Ibrerico ham with asparagus and parmesan custard, with seared bluenose, hazelnuts, ginger, cherry tomatoes and lemon mint - not sure about you but I'm sold. However, if you were needing an extra incentive, the complimentary glass of GH Mumm Champagne will surely have you across the line.

It wouldn't be the Melbourne Cup without a nod to fashion, so ladies, go all out. There will be spot prizes for the best hat/fascinator as well as the best dressed, thanks to G.H Mumm Champagne and Ruby.

Don't get caught in the office next Tuesday next to a dodgy crackling radio, there are far better ways to enjoy the day, and with tickets for the Sale Street do priced at just $60 it's definitely up there on our list of places to be.
