A New Zealand Fragrance Artist Has Created Cannabis Perfume
If you've ever wanted to smell like sticky-icky chronic.
Get a whiff of this. If you've ever wanted to smell like sticky-icky chronic, your time has come. From Perfume Playground's Samantha Copland comes a new fragrance that mimics the scent of cannabis to a molecular level.
The cannabis perfume trend is currently causing a buzz in the beauty world, but not in the head trip, hungrier-than-usual way that you might think. Rather than blowing smoke from a bucky bong across your evening gown, this scent was created in a lab by natural perfumer Samantha Copland from aroma-molecules found from alternative sources. It is inspired by a specific cannabis strain, contains no cannabinoids and will not result in any hallucinogenic effects.
The scent is designed to "help restore energetic balance". Using biological messengers called terpenes — more than 200 have been identified in cannabis strains — it has the ability to elevate mood, provide restful sleep and stress relief. Copland says that, "Scents can affect state of mind because our sense of smell is located in the same part of our brain that effects emotions, memory and creativity."
Through her company Perfume Playground, Copland has designed plant-based blends from 14 different strains of cannabis. It is the SuperLemonHaze variety that will be first available to the New Zealand public. The fragrance is infused with notes of yellow mandarin, blackcurrant, kawakawa, cardamon, cepes (French porcini mushrooms) and Vanuatu sandalwood.
