The Government's shutdown of educational facilities and non-essential services has required many business to reevaluate the way they operate. For 'buy one, give one' initiative Eat My Lunch that means working with school closures and delivery and takeaway restrictions to feed hungry children. Since its launch in 2015, the social enterprise has handed out nearly 1.5 million lunches. Now, EML is turning its attention to vulnerable elderly in the community.

Heading out to the supermarket or navigating already blacked out online shopping services is simply not an option for many across the country. So you can look after elderly relatives and vulnerable neighbours, Eat My Lunch's Fresh Essential Boxes will provide essential groceries so they don't need to leave the house.

Each box comes packed with one week's supply of food for two to four people. They include all the basics and more, including eggs, milk, butter, bread, bacon, sliced meat, seasonal fruit and vegetables, soup, biscuits and hot cross buns. There is also a gluten-free option and one for those after fresh bread.

Orders need to be placed online 48 hours in advance before the boxes are delivered direct to the recipient's door. The service is currently only available in Auckland and Wellington.

In line with the organisation's mission to stamp out child poverty in New Zealand, for every essentials box bought, two lunches will be given to children in need.
