It aims to prove that plant-based treats don't all have to taste like coconut.

Those following a plant-based lifestyle in Auckland are spoiled for choice when it comes to frosty treats. Delicious vegan ice cream can already be found by way of Duck Island, Island Gelato, Lalele Organic and Lulu's at scoop shops and farmers markets across the city.

After starting in a little corner at the Grey Lynn Farmers Market, Good Habit has put down permanent roots in Parnell to scoop its dairy-free ice cream. The goal of owners Henry and Kristen Cheung is to make luscious ice cream using simple and minimally processed ingredients — and to prove that plant-based offerings don't all have to taste like coconut.

Good Habit's flavours rotate according to the season. There are currently two spring specials up for tasting, including one made with grapefruit juice, juniper berries and hibiscus flowers, and another floral delight incorporating lavender and Earl Grey tea. New matcha marshmallow and strawberry milk creations are also on the cards.

More traditional flavours include vanilla and Canadian maple syrup, the combo of coffee and banana, and peanut butter swirled with lashings of house-made jam. Elsewhere, there's an Italian classic with ripples of strawberry jam and balsamic reduction, and a midnight black ice cream based around black sesame.

Find Good Habit at 177 Parnell Road, Parnell. It's open Tuesday to Sunday, from midday to 9pm.
