Attention vegans and lactose intolerants — your time has finally come. After years of jealously watching your friends down Creamy Milk like they're on death row while you loftily maintain you "prefer dark chocolate anyway", you can stop lying to them (and yourself).

Whittakers has finally released the oat milk chocolate block the public has been clamouring for, after images first started circulating on social media a few weeks back.

Made with 42 percent cocoa chocolate and locally sourced Harraways oats, the new addition to Whittakers' lineup is a permanent one — and according to the company, took two years of work to perfect.

Product Development Manager Megan Sinclair says she thinks the new Oat Milk block will appeal not only to customers who prefer plant-based options or flexitarians but to anyone who loves to try something new or mix it up.

"We think Whittaker's Oat Milk has a distinct and moreish flavour that will have broad appeal to chocolate lovers in general. It's made with the same attention to quality as all of our delicious chocolate," she said in a statement.

Like all Whittaker's chocolate, Whittaker's Oat Milk chocolate is made from beans to bar at its single factory in Porirua.

Whittaker's Oat Milk is a permanent addition to its chocolate range and is available in a classic 250g block. It will be available in stores nationwide from Monday 18 July 2022.
