Overview
Digital collage artists Case Simmons and Andrew Burke (who together are Simmons & Burke) have taken collage art to a new level to create what the artists describe as "psychological space...where quotation, hybridization and mutation are the order."
If Not Winter, an exhibition currently on display at the Michael Kohn Gallery in LA, uses over 5000 images, audio samples and "an absurd amount of labour." So much so that the collage they combined to create is constantly changing. "We like the idea of making a Frankensteinian world that is both overwhelming and quieting,”
The artists cite “cultural anxiety and paranoia, media sensationalism and fringe culture, celebrity worship and sacred geometry” as inspiration but state that they are more passionate about the attempt and process to create such large scale collages than the finished product. The labour is palpable.
