Overview

Dumplings are a staple option for diners throughout the Auckland region. And, whether they're steamed, fried or drowned in sauce, everyone has their own style and preference. Britomart’s XuXu has jumped on the dumpling band wagon, re-imagining their menu to include multiple varieties of the delicious favourite - all with the added bonus of pleasant decor and great drinks.

Hand crafted by the bars longstanding chef, Xuyen Do Thi, XuXu’s dumplings are the perfect bite-sized morsels, inspired by exploring street side stalls in Hanoi.

The menu may be small but it covers all bases; from steamed spinach and cabbage Nepali dumplings, traditional Chinese prawn har gao dumplings, fried chicken and stitake mushroom potstickers, Korean pork dumplings with egg and nori beef broth, and more. Sides include chilli pickled cucumber and five spice peanuts, and the list of Asian-inspired cocktails, wines, boutique beers have all been chosen to complement the food.

Averaging at six dumplings for between $7 to $8, it’s a few extra bob than what you’ll get up the road in Balmoral, but if you’re looking for freshness over quantity, plus an experience with all the bells and whistles, XuXu is the place to visit.

Dumpling fact: Fried potstickers were originally called "tender ears" because they were used to treat frostbitten ears.
