The La Casa Artist Residency is a haven for musicians, designers, artists and surfers, and an online destination for all those who are inspired by creativity.

Picture a welcoming house in an idyllic beachfront location, unparalleled natural beauty, a space where artists can escape, be inspired, collaborate and create. With every tool at their disposal, including an in-house recording studio, art room and a world-class surf break, a slice of each artist’s stay at La Casa is captured on film offering a rare opportunity to gain insight into the inner workings and creative processes of both talented individuals and groups.

The brainchild of legendary filmmaker Taylor Steele, who also directs all of the filmmaking for the project, La Casa has already played host to a number of established and emerging artists, setting the tone for what is to come.

Artists featured in the clips released include musician and surfer Donavon Frankenreiter (as below), world renowned surfer Kelly Slater & musician Angus Stone and Morgan Kibby of M83. Watch out for upcoming content which we will be updating regularly below.

Kassia Meador

Kassia Meador is a California surfer best known for her smooth and stylish longboard riding style. Out of the water she can also count clothing design, cosmic songwriting, photography and film making among her talents. Kassia spent her time at the La Casa Artist Residency creating music with her band UFO 2012 on crystal singing bowls, hanging ten on the Byron Bay surf and reflecting on how the art of catching a wave opened her up to a vast new range of creative outlets and self-expressionism.

The Temper Trap

The Temper Trap, (who we interviewed late last year) paid the La Casa Artist Residency a visit, recording a number of demos for their next album and bringing along their friend in award winning Producer Malay (Frank Ocean). With two albums done and dusted, lets hope the inspirations gained from the Byron Bay retreat can bring us more hits such as Sweet Disposition, Fader and more recently Need Your Love and Rabbit Hole.

Julia Stone

Australian folk-blues singer songwriter Julia Stone was a recent resident to the La Casa Artist Residency. The video above features the sister-half of Angus & Julia Stone soaking up the atmosphere at the Byron Bay haven, while talking us through her creative process of writing her sultry songs, which you can only imagine being amplified by a hundred while residing at this place.

Donavon Frankenreiter

To promote the New Zealand launch of www.lacasa.net.nz, Corona Extra hosted the smooth talking Donavon Frankenreiter at Piha Cafe for an exclusive media event, and then held a free public performance at La Zeppa, in the city of Auckland. For photos of the performance click here, and check out the video of the performance below and his shout out to Concrete Playground readers.
