Throughout June, we have been partnering up with Rochfort Rees Wine Co. to provide the opportunity for fans of their Facebook page to win dinner at some of Auckland's best restaurants and bars. We took the opportunity to catch up with founder Oliver Scutts, who has been working hard on growing the brand, and recently secured a distribution deal in Australia.
When did you start Rochfort?
Rochfort Rees was started in 2008 by myself and my father Peter Scutts.
What is the biggest challenge facing you and/or the wine industry at the moment?
I think our biggest challenge is to stay one step ahead of what others are doing in the wine industry in NZ. Wine in this country and around the world is so effected by marketing that we do our best too do things that are different and people find interesting, which in turn makes them want to learn about our brand.
What have been some of Rochfort Rees biggest achievements?
Rochfort Rees has come a long way since 2008, we have moved on from producing just Sav Blanc to Pinot Noir and Rosé. This vintage we are expanding even further into Pinot Gris and Sparkling Rosé, for a small company we are well represented on some of the best wine lists in the country while we remain to keep our uniqueness by not supplying supermarkets or large chain liquor stores which is an achievement within itself.
Where can people find Rochfort in Auckland?
You should be able to find it at lot of good bars and restaurants. We ran this Facebook competition this month to not only give back to your fans, but to showcase just some of the restaurant and bars we are in. Rochfort Rees is also available from Faro Fresh and other boutique wine stores Auckland wide. It will also be available to purchase directly from our website www.rochfortrees.co.nz later in the year
I believe you have recently struck a deal in Oz?
Yes , we have just completed a deal to have Rochfort Rees distributed Australian wide in the same manner that it is here. We are pleased to be entering such a great market over there and hope to have the wine available for Aussie's and Kiwi's alike to enjoy over there by summer 2013-2014.
And lastly, where is your go-to café's?
In Auckland it has always been Dizengoff and more recently Ruben on Parnell Rise, and in Sydney Bar Coluzzi in Darlinghurst .
