Pack & Co are extending their empire to include a new Customs St establishment, The Crown. Located in the historic Britomart Hotel, upstairs is the new Empire Salon space with tan leather booths and dance floor, while downstairs is the main bar with a microbrewery out back.
Yup, that's right, the Crown will be serving its own handmade all-natural pilsner, golden lager and pale ale starting late June. The Crown's brews will be available on tap and in two-litre 'rigger' bottles so customers can take away their favourite brew.
The Crown's menu is rustic, hearty pub fare, with half-size, full and share-sized options available. Snacks include Angus beef meatballs with smoked tomato and basil sauce and orzo, baked kumara loaf with manuka apple glaze and horopito bush pepper, and hot n' spicy glazed chicken wings with salted pecan brittle.
Other Crown favourites include a 12-hour amber ale braised beef cheek with black truffle potato mash and leek, and chargrilled lamb rump with gnocchi, heirloom tomato and mint gremolata. Mains include the likes of pork spare ribs with smoked ancho chilli, hoisin and ginger sauce, aged sirloin with beer battered onion rings, whiskey and green peppercorn sauce, and herb-rubbed roasted chicken with sage and apricot stuffing and mushroom cream jus.
And if you somehow manage to leave enough room for dessert, you can deliberate over warm apple and feijoa crumble with hokey pokey icecream, dark chocolate mouse with orange marmalade biscotti, or vanilla panna cotta with fruit tea caramel and poached berries.
The new gastro-pub in the Auckland CBD blends the industrial with old school elegance. Check it out for something a little bit unique.
