Overview

Auckland Council's much-loved entertainment series returns for summer with a bumper program of 50 free openair events. From January to April, sibling events Music and Movies in Parks will see 25 gigs and 26 movies play out under the stars of Tāmaki Makaurau.

For its 27th year, nearly 60 musical acts will assemble on stages across the city's regional parks and reserves. Highlights on the schedule include P-Money, David Dallas and Kings at Hayman Park on Sunday, 14 March, and Pluto's return to the stage at Basque Park in Eden Terrace on Saturday, 15 February.

Elsewhere, St Heliers' Glover Park will play host to New Zealand Opera for an evening of classical arrangements, while mainstream acts Jason Kerrison, Anika Moa and The Feelers will take over Lloyd Elsmore Park in Howick. Further artists performing throughout the series include: Bleeders, Racing, Ijebu Pleasure Club, Carb on Carb, Lucky Boy, among plenty of others.

While free movie nights are abundant across the city, the annual Movies in Parks series brings openair cinema to the leafy suburbs. This year organisers are expecting audience numbers over 30,000 during the series. As per usual the event arrives with a curated selection of big ticket new releases and old favourites. On the bill for 2020 are MIB International, The Lion King, GreaseCrazy Rich AsiansE.T., and plenty of others. The series will end with a secret screening on Saturday, 18 April at
Brains Park in Kelston.

Food trucks will be on-site and Auckland Council will run a zero-waste system at all events.
