Auckland City Limits Complete Their 2016 Lineup
Featuring a genre-mashing sampling genius and a stage curated by the city's most forward-thinking entertainment hub.
Auckland City Limits, the event inspired by and aligned with the Austin City Limits Music Festival in Austin, Texas, has topped off its diverse lineup with a genre-mashing sampling genius and a stage curated by the city's most forward-thinking entertainment hub.
Pittsburg DJ Girl Talk is best known for his breakneck mashups, which can combine anywhere up to 50 song snippets to create one free-flowing track. Given the unauthorised use of samples, his style has been referred to as "a lawsuit waiting to happen." Attendees of his live performance at ACL can expect an all-encompassing party vibe with mandatory crowd participation. Auckland power-pop band Openside have also been added to the festival’s outer field stage.
The brains behind offbeat watering hole The Golden Dawn: Tavern of Power have been enlisted to program a lakeside stage to complete the festival's lineup of 40 artists. The pop-up stage has been promised to be a reproduction of the Ponsonby institution with an eclectic bill of musicians, comedians and DJs.
Musical acts set to take the Golden Dawn stage include alt-country songwriter Delaney Davidson, local blues duo Hopetoun Brown, spaghetti western jazz-ensemble Carnivorous Plant Society, loop 'n' brass dreamscape act Shab Orkestra, improvisational blues group Storehouse Blues, the indescribable silver-suited Austrian, Peter Baecker, and DJs TSR Airlines, TV Disko and House of Bamboo.
Laughs will be provided courtesy of stand-up comedians David Correos, Joseph Harper and Paul Amos, while Amorous Ava will tick off burlesque and body slamming.
The inaugural Auckland City Limits music festival will take place at Western Springs Park on March 19, 2016.
