Overview
The annual Auckland Live Summer in the Square has arrived just in time for the bluebird skies and reasonable temperatures to beckon our pasty, suit-clad bodies out of fluorescent-lit offices and into the sun for some after work and lunchtime entertainment. The free, summer-long, outdoor event kicks off in Aotea Square on December 1 with New Zealand's only professional, inclusive dance company Touch Compass performing Somatechnics, followed by a show from Auckland synth-pop artist Merk.
Other highlights include a K-Pop workshop with the quite famous South Korean singer and ex-member of Diva and Roo-ra and current member of Girl Friends, Rina Chae, on December 2; swing, salsa, bachata, tango, samba and zumba classes on the rollout dancefloor; folk music from Flip Grater, Shenadoah Davis, Tiny Town and Mahoney Harris; a performance from electro group SoccerPractise on February 2; gardening workshops — including basic beekeeping and how to set up your own organic edible garden; and Everybody Eats — a community dinner where you decide what the bill should be – on January 25.
