Overview

The top 20 New Zealand songs in line for the country’s most prestigious songwriting accolade have been announced.

The APRA Silver Scroll Award celebrates the creative excellence of music released in the past year. Previous winners include Lorde with 'Royals’, Lips with ‘Everything to Me', and The Naked and Famous with ‘Young Blood’.

A panel of APRA writer members selected this year’s 20 finalists from a long list, and now it’s over to the country’s 10,000 plus songwriters in the APRA community to whittle it down to the final five and determine the overall winner.

The 2014 APRA Silver Scroll Awards will be held at Wellington’s TSB Arena on Thursday 30 October. Alongside the Silver Scroll, awards presented will include the APRA Maioha Award for contemporary Maori Music, the SOUNZ Contemporary Award for contemporary Classical Music, the Most Performed Work in New Zealand and Overseas, as well as two new awards – the APRA Best Original Music in a Feature Film Award and the APRA Best Original Music in a Series Award. The night will also include an induction into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame.
