For those of us that sooth the travel bug occasionally, we are all very aware of the references kiwis are identified with overseas. There is the occasional All Black or Flight of the Conchords chat, but generally it’s those little Hobbits who become the immediate go to for people once it’s established that you’re not an Aussie. And while of course there is pride tied up with that, discussing Gollum on the d-floor isn't always going to get you to the place you want to be on a night out in Ibiza…

So yes, while Pete J is doing a phenomenal job showcasing our lakes, there appears to be a new trend of content featuring our shores recently which could change things. What is most interesting though, is that it's not even kiwis fronting it.

In the last few weeks arguably the hottest artists in their trade right now have used NZ as their backdrop for their latest music videos, and the views are skyrocketing. Macklemore has clocked up over 10,000,000 views on his latest clip 'Can't Hold Us' which features the Coromandel while recently Netsky worked with local filmmakers to document his recent LIVE nationwide tour which then became the official video for 'When Darkness Falls'. With their social large social followings, you only need to look at the comments to see the positive sentiment gained for the land of the long white cloud.
