Overview
Mass gatherings are well and truly back on the cards and the South Island's largest music and camping experience is first out of the gate with its lineup for the 2020 season. From December 29–31, 10,000 people are expected to land in the Cardrona Valley for Rhythm and Alps. It will be the tenth year the festival has been held in the picture-perfect location just outside of Wanaka.
With our borders currently closed to international travellers, and no sign of that trans-Tasman bubble happening anytime soon, organisers have wrangled an all-local lineup for 2020.
Pop-rock-roots-soul-electronica heavyweights Six60 lead the bill, alongside the country's favourite barbecue reggae act, Fat Freddy's Drop. It doesn't stop there; local rock legends Shihad will be bringing big riffs to the valley, and newcomer Benee will make her debut at the festival with mega hits like 'Soaked' and 'Supalonely'.
For fans of progressive indie there's Wellington's The Phoenix Foundation, while lovers of house and drum and bass will be covered with producers and DJs like Quix, Chaos in the CBD, Truth, Trei, Fairbrother and K2K. Rounding off the bill across four stages are Wax Mustang, Reb Fountain, Racing and Ferby.
Pre-sale tickets go on sale Tuesday, July 7 with general sale available from Wednesday, July 8.
