We've found the best way to celebrate the first day of summer — and no, it's not Crate Day.

It's announcement time for one of Karangahape Road's annual highlights: The Others Way Festival. The event's first lineup has just been revealed, with a range of homegrown and international talents set to perform at the one-day festival on Friday, December 1.

The independent fest first launched in 2015, and has catered to all sorts of music fans — whether you're into indie, pop, hip-hop, soul, punk, you name it, The Others Way Festival has it.

In 2023, the event will be headlined by American rap crew Souls of Mischief, who will be celebrating 30 years since the release of their groundbreaking album 93 'til Infinity.

Other acts on the lineup cover a mix of musical genres and talents. On the list: Los Angeles harpist Mary Lattimore, multi-instrumentalist Pachyman, legendary reggae group Herbs (who will be treating the audience to a rare acoustic set), local favourites Strawpeople, soul band Opensouls and Aotearoa Music Awards Best Alternative Artist-winner Vera Ellen, just to name a few.

When the festival takes over Auckland's hub for music and culture, aka Karangahape Road, more than 40 acts will play in, out and around different venues throughout the area, resulting in an epic street party. That includes an outdoor stage on Galatos Street, just off K Road, plus an all-ages stage at The Underground, a venue buried in the old vault of St Kevin's Arcade.
