Synthony Is Heading to Auckland Domain Next Year for a Seven-Hour All-Ages Outdoor Festival
Aotearoa's biggest orchestral dance concert is heading outdoors.
Dance and classical aren't music genres you'd usually find swirling around in the same basket — unless you have a particular bent for the orchestral 'Sandstorm' covers found in the depths of YouTube. But every year those two things combine for one of the city's favourite live music performances, as the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra and a selection of local DJs play the biggest dance tracks of the last 30 years.
Well, Synthony is being taken to new heights and a brand new location when it comes back next year — and it's set to keep the summer vibes pumping well into autumn. In 2023, it will be the biggest production yet, as the orchestra and star-studded line-up of guest vocalists head outdoors, taking over two stages in the Domain for seven epic hours of dance bangers. Seeing the end of summer in by grooving in the expansive gardens, lush green grass and natural amphitheatre of Pukekawa? Sounds like a good time to us.
Hosted by Aroha, Synthony in the Domain will also be the debut of a brand new set list from DJ Dick Johnson, with musical arrangements by renowned composer Ryan Youens. As if you needed any more of an incentive, some of our favourite local vocalists are also joining the lineup, including Ilan Kidron from The Potbelleez, Savage, Ella Monnery, Jeremy Redmore and Bella Kalolo — plus there are still more to be announced.
Things will kick off at sunset, with the first half of the lengthy festi promising a mix of fan-favourite classics and freshly curated tracks alike. Then things will ramp up halfway through, with an array of the biggest electronic dance bangers reimagined — but still ready for you to dance under the stars. To keep you fuelled, there will be a wine, food and cocktail village with bespoke pop-up bars. For a more luxe experience, you can really splash out by buying tickets for the VIP garden. Otherwise, choose from both an all-ages GA area and a Premium R18 area.
It's a while away yet but we're already pumped — which is lucky because tickets go on sale this week from the official website.
Synthony in the Domain will be held at Auckland Domain on Saturday, April 1, 2023. Tickets go on sale on Thursday, September 8.
