The capital has no shortage of stunning boutique art spaces and galleries, but a new addition to the lineup has opened to the public with a stunning collection of local works, all set to go under the hammer next month.

Webb's has established itself as one of the country's premier auction houses in recent years — it specialises in everything from jewels, cars, fine wines and whiskeys, and of course, art. The company's art interests have led to the recent opening of its own state-of-the-art (no pun intended) gallery on Marion Street in Wellington's CBD, a 450sm space designed by interior designer Rufus Knight.

Open now, the Webb's team say they want the gallery to be a space open to locals — even those perhaps not in the market to currently purchase.

"At Webb's Wellington, we're looking forward to being part of the city's art community, part of the conversation. We're open six days a week [so] drop by and enjoy the art," says art specialist Carey Young.

Webb's is officially opening the new gallery with an auction of works from the collection Goods and Services: Modern and Contemporary Art from a Private Collection. Sourced from public exhibitions, local private collections and Wellington-based dealers, this stunning array of works by many of the country's most celebrated artists will officially launch the new showroom. Artists including Bill Hammond, Liz Maw, Richard Killeen, Shane Cotton and Robin White all feature in the lineup.

The collection will be available to view in the Wellington gallery from Wednesday, June 15 until Sunday, June 25 (with the gallery closed on Friday, June 24 for Matariki). The auction will take place on Monday, July 4 at Webb's Auckland premises.

Webb's new art gallery is open now at 23 Marion street, Te Aro, Wellington.
