Overview

Boisterous, welcoming and completely natural, most definitely the characteristics we have come to associate with the infallible Al Brown.

Previously reserved for the good folk of Wellington, Auckland now has its very own piece of the Al Brown legacy to celebrate and enjoy with the recent opening of Auckland’s newest shared dining experience – Depot.

A hunter gatherer, Al’s personality and past time passions are clear influences of the décor and menu at Depot.  With a menu that is easy to navigate (a select number of dishes) but that is packed with variety and flavour, it is a safe bet to close your eyes point a finger and take what comes.

My recommendation is to start with the Tio Point oysters, slide into the kingfish sashimi, beef it up with the skirt steak (wasted if not for the habanera mustard) and share a side of fish. Be sure to match the mains with any of the sides, however, if there is one thing above all else that you must have to complete this experience it is the potato skins..sound so simple, taste phenomenal.

Sugar Pie, no not you, a creation formed through 8 hours of loving reduction, set in a crust of buttery goodness – wheel me home.

Aptly named, this is a terminal for a dining experience; get your morning fix, shop talk at lunch or share dinner with friends.
