An exciting new initiative is kicking off in Ponsonby where by locals are encouraged to get their cans out in exchange for coffee (ok, to the people who thought people were showing breasts in exchange for coffee where it clearly shows a can and a cup of coffee in the photo above, shame on you. Though... it would probably actually work extremely well). Anyway, back to the story, this is a pop-up espresso bar with a difference.

Locals is the brainchild of Brad Robinson, Oliver Johnston and Joshua Wong who are passionate about people and the community. Supported by fresh coffee roaster Caffe L'affare, Locals is the outworking of a shared vision to encourage local communities to give food to those in need through their love of coffee.

Locals is a not-for-profit initiative with the aim of bettering the community, the “Can for a Coffee” concept does exactly that. It’s simple, exchange a can of food for your morning coffee. The locals will donate all canned goods straight to the Auckland City Mission. With their first partnering coffee roaster, Caffe L'affare, the pop up begins an exciting journey which the trio hopes will encourage other coffee roasters around the world to jump on board and create a ‘Locals’ of their own.

The pop-up cafe, aptly named “Locals”, is open from 9am-11am on Friday and Saturday.
