Overview

Hidden around the back of Kingsland in a stylishly renovated building that looks like it might have been a car panelbeaters in years gone by is Crave Café.

Started up by a bunch of local creative souls who craved a sense of community, Crave has become a gallery for local art, a provider of wholesome foods, and a place where conversations get past the point of being polite and actually become interesting. Crave hosts slam poetry events, quiz nights, and street parties. All profits are put straight back into community projects and combating poverty in the local area.

Inside, the industrial fitout is somehow also super homely, the vibe is friendly and completely unpretentious, and the selection of reading material is varied. It's the kind of place where you stop in for a quick ten-minute coffee, and find yourself an hour later head still bouncing to the music and buried deep in a magazine or at a table spinning yarn with an old friend that you happened to run into.

It's the perfect spot for catch up brunch or lunch. The coffee is expertly brewed and the smoothies are as fresh as Dane Rumble's haircut was in 2009. My recommendation for breakfast would be the Full Crave, which features some of the best handmade hash browns you are likely to find. There are plenty of options for lunch, and a whole lot of freshly baked goodness for a quick stop in.

The food here is made with a whole lotta love, and fresh ingredients. This is one spot where your money will be well spent, and that's in more ways than one.
