It's been a tough ol' year on many, not least of all Melbourne's prized hospitality industry, which has borne the brunt of extended lockdowns and ongoing capacity restrictions. But here's a little feel-good story to boost your faith in its certain comeback: Alejandro Saravia's 80 Collins restaurant Farmer's Daughters has been recognised in the annual Melbourne Awards, taking out the Hospitality Award for 2021. Launched in January after a suite of COVID-related delays, Farmer's Daughters has spent a fair chunk of its debut year in lockdown. During the brief time its doors have been open, it's clearly left quite the impression, winning fans for its innovative spirit and quality culinary offering. Its regionally-inspired menus hero elements like Baw Baw Alpine trout, Terramirra Park venison, Maffra cheddar and Eaglehawk Creek pork, along with a swag of exciting Gippsland-born spirits, wines and beers. It's this commitment to local sourcing and sustainability that earned the venue its Melbourne Award. 2021 marks the 19th edition of the City of Melbourne-run awards, which celebrate the significant contributions of Melburnians across a variety of industries each year. Farmer's Daughters is spread across three stylish levels within the 80 Collins precinct, encompassing a casual deli, retail pantry, restaurant and rooftop cocktail bar.
